Ticket cost to Hong Kong and STM fee, etc.

Smart Team Summer Volunteer Testimony

Picture
Elim Hsu from Taiwan (2013)
I saw and experienced the spirit of "One body one church" in this six-week period in Smart Team. I knew more CCMN's sending conviction especially how CCMN carries out church-based mission. These experiences tell me that everyone plays a vital role in the missions movement, influencing me to join the Smart Team in Taipei after I went back to Taiwan as my active response to the movement.

Kei Takikita from Japan (2013)
I was so impressed by Smart Team members' attitude. Smart Team always try their best to do things, do things together and do things creatively & joyfully. They treasure teamwork, often gather together intentionally so that they can work as one body. Though I was a foreigner, I could always feel that I belongs to the team.

Beautiful from Macau (2014)
This year's involvement prepared me a lot for my vision of missions in the future as I learned to sacrifice. Give up for God but never give up God himself as I witnessed God's people sacrificing their lives for this missions movement. It's especially unforgettable to know every individual in HK Smart Team and hear about their stories. When you get involved, you will understand the motto of "being persistent; staying joyful; never give up and spread the vision out". Being able to work, get crazy and give up our lives together is absolutely incredible.
Having returned to Macau, I'd still continue to live out missions: prepare myself and my fellow young disciples to dream for Macau! Go! Go! Go!

Lydia Suen from Hong Kong, studying in England (2014)
My view to missions is definitely widened. In the past, people always talk about how missions should be involved in daily life but I never experienced it vividly until I joined Smart Team. My vision given by God has been made so much more clearly, making missions movement is much more personal and tight. In long term, I'd like to inspire people in my church to get involved into the movement. If God allows, I will even go on a long term mission with honour. Teamwork, obedience and humbleness are the three most important qualities that I've learned so much from HK Smart Team.

Growing Stronger in Faith      - Akane from Japan Smart Team

It all started from the summer program in Smart Team. Akane, flying from Japan to Hong Kong in May, had three goals in mind. But God rewarded her more than she had asked for during these three months.

Speaking up in English
"The summer program was a good training because I needed to share myself a lot!"
Akane felt uncomfortable to speak in English at the beginning of her stay but amazed at what she had done so far. During every team time in Smart Team, training sessions, training camp and STM, sometimes only 5-minute notice before going on stage to share, all these trained her up in public speaking in English. “Now I understand how important to share our weaknesses to others because we can pray for one another,” said Akane grabbing the key of communication.

Jesus’ Side by Side
“Jesus is over there, not with me,” Akane gave a comment while pointing to an image drawn beforehand to depict her long-time relationship with Jesus. Jesus was behind her door and she could not see Him. However, in the Mission Night at the training camp, a hymn I Have Decided to Follow Jesus stroke out. “At this song, I finally decided to follow Jesus. By the time, the image in my mind about Jesus changed. Jesus is with me side by side.”

In front of the Cross, Akane asked God a question: “What is the purpose in my life?” God answered her: “Be a fisherman for men.” It surprised her for she did not know the way. But encouragement came in time. Before departure for Bangladesh in STM, she received a scripture, Isaiah 30:21, from a bookmark given by a Smart Team member. It enlightened Akane’s mind very much. “Even I walked to a wrong direction, Jesus guides me through," she explained in a deeper faith.

A Bag of Emotions Gone
At the STM in Bangladesh, Akane experienced her physical and emotional healing from God for the first time. Her heaviness of neck got healed after a prayer. She used to think “it is only the great faith can pray for healing”. Disturbed by her family matter back home and the disappointment on herself at the STM, she could not withhold her emotions any longer and cried herself out one morning after a devotional time with her team.

Through a prayer, she saw a picture that Jesus was holding a small white plastic bag in front of her. It gave her an idea of speaking things out. Thus, she obediently poured her heart out with her prayer partner whom she did not feel quite comfortable to talk to. “After sharing, I could throw away my negative emotions into Jesus' plastic bag.” It soothed her heart. Now she is confident enough even to pray for God’s healing to anyone.

She thanked God for giving her opportunity to come to Hong Kong and she could bring back home with heaps of blessings from her many newly-made Christian friends around the world.

A Handful of Mission Seeds - Deborah from Japan Smart Team

“I realized I haven’t done enough after working for Hong Kong Smart Team,” Deborah humbly admitted this was the biggest lesson she learnt during the 3-month program. Having a mission fire for the Middle East, she was not entirely a stranger to the general work of Smart Team. Followed her pastor’s recommendation while she was unemployed at that time, Deborah grabbed the chance and refreshed herself through volunteering and STM.

An Eye-opener to Missions
“I just thought I had done enough mission work by taking part in prayer meetings, STMs or sharing sessions.” Deborah described it a mind-blowing experience when she met up with MUD designer Shirley who made use of her leather crafting skills to bless a mission field. Deborah shared the same interest in leather-working but only took it as a pastime. Seeing that was a way, she confessed, “I really missed the point of connecting with missions every day.”

During her stay, Deborah made an appointment with Joe, the founder of OneLife Development, who was eager to share with her the concept of doing business for missions. “Joe’s missional visions impressed me most. As usual, we just thought missions were all about going and sending. However, we neglected the everyday livelihood that could be connected to missions. Every talent, skill or expertise has a place in missions. For instance, artistic design could be applied to package design for products or advertising,” said Deborah with a head full of new marketing ideas for missions. She used to work in marketing field with art and design.

Let No One Despise Your Youth
Never in her life learnt to paint, Deborah had to initiate a wall-painting with oil-based paints and paint brushes together with her team for a school in the Middle East at STM. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, she got an impression of “two hands holding a lump of soil with a seed popped up”. After that, a local co-worker, who received a scripture about sowing in a prayer before looking at Deborah’s work, came to tell her how the wall-painting carried such a prophetic meaning. It signified that these are not only hands from God, but hands from teachers who raise up refugee children with good soil which brings out manifold crop.

At a meeting while Deborah was playing drums, a pastor’s wife said a prophetic prayer for her that “whatever Deborah sings, play drums or is engaged in anything about creativity, there are prophetic insights inside.” Deborah was moved to tears because God has empowered her to work with faith in Taiwan and grow in confidence.

“Back home, I particularly have a burden on teens. I want to revive and inspire them. It is one of the reasons why I want to join Taiwan Smart Team. Teenagers can do a lot more. Besides, I want to keep sharing things about missions through media or other forms. It is an act of sowing in term of sharing and delivering.”

Within three months, Deborah has looked at her mission and ministry from a different point of view. “I can do a lot more!” she yelled out.

Therefore, in order for the mission movement to succeed, everyone must move.
